Matt Cannon is an experienced personal injury attorney who has devoted his entire career to representing those harmed by the negligence of others. Since beginning his practice as an attorney, Matt has successfully represented clients injured in car accidents and slip and falls on dangerous property, as well as victims of defective products, nursing home abuse and neglect, workplace injuries, medical malpractice, and many more.
Matt graduated from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law in May 2017 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar and the Federal Northern District of Illinois Bar in November 2017. While in law school, Matt was a member and team coach of the Moot Court Honor Society and earned the CALI award for the highest grade in Trial Advocacy II. Matt was also selected to the Dean’s List three times while at Chicago-Kent.
Prior to passing the bar and while still in law school, Matt worked as a clerk for another well-respected law firm in Chicago, primarily focusing on medical malpractice and wrongful death litigation. Following that, he worked as a law clerk and spent his early years as an attorney at a prominent plaintiff’s personal injury firm in Chicago, where he initially began his career by representing clients who had suffered on-the-job injuries before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. Later, his practice came to focus on representing victims of medical malpractice and nursing home abuse and neglect, a cause he cares deeply about given his previous work in the healthcare field prior to becoming an attorney. While there, Matt also worked on cases for clients injured in car accidents, slip and falls, and maritime and construction accidents.
In his first year practicing law, Matt briefed, argued, and won in front of the Supreme Court of Illinois in a case involving the interpretation of the Illinois Distributors’ Statute. Matt successfully argued that the trial court had erred in dismissing the distributor of a faulty product which had collapsed, causing catastrophic injuries to the plaintiff. Matt argued that a prior Appellate Court decision had incorrectly interpreted a provision of the Distributors’ Statute, leading to the wrongful dismissal of the client’s case. The Supreme Court of Illinois agreed with Matt’s position, overruling both the Appellate Court’s previous decision, as well as the trial court’s dismissal, and returned the client’s case to the trial court. Matt also wrote and won the underlying appeal of the case with the Appellate Court.
Prior to enrolling in law school, Matt completed his Bachelor’s Degree with Honors while still on active duty in the U.S. Navy.
Client Approach"I strive to learn every detail of each client’s case, so as to ensure that if the other side tries to misrepresent what happened, I’m able to quickly correct them and ensure that my client receives maximum compensation for all of their injuries.”
